Eiderdown, the rarest natural material, is harvested responsibly and without cruelty from the nests of female Eider ducks in the protected regions of Iceland. These non-migratory birds endure the cold Northern Hemisphere waters year-round. In breeding season, the ducks line nests with their supple chest down and are gently collected by caretakers at a time ensured to avoid impact on the mother or her eggs.

This meticulous and labor-intensive process results in a limited annual yield of only 4,000 kilograms/8,900 pounds. The scarce availability and labor-intensive sustainable harvesting of Eiderdown occurs in such a limited window, that this natural resource is considered more rare and exclusive than diamonds.
We embrace our responsibility as a global brand to contribute to a sustainable and ethical future. Our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility is woven into the fabric of our identity, shaping our actions and initiatives-- which include philanthropy, indigenous collaboration, sustainable duvet production, customer and stakeholder education at our picturesque Eider duck sanctuary located in Iceland’s Fljotin Skagafordur under the dedicated stewardship of one family over three generations, spanning 80 years.

As a further commitment to our mission, UMŌ Paris will solely focus on creating exquisite bedding foundations.
Masterfully sewn by artisans in our B-Corporation Certified ateliers in Chablis, France.
I once had the most restorative sleep experience of my life enveloped in a duvet that was both plush and comfortable, yet incredibly lightweight. The temperature was perfect, as if I were in an airy cocoon. I knew then, that I had to bring an elevated duvet to the world.

A journey ensued to identify a finite natural resource that would appeal to the discerning global citizen is deeply rooted in sustainability and conservation, all while championing the artisan. I sought out the most sustainable Eider duck sanctuary owners in Iceland and a like-minded atelier in France to craft the ultimate duvet.  Then, I discovered the word for down in Japanese is ‘umō’ and have an affinity with their high design and minimalism, which resonated with our ethos. A true product of master artisans. This was the genesis of UMŌ Paris.

Our values are woven throughout the brand’s offering, from performance design to a tonal feather embroidered on each duvet, demonstrating thoughtful details not visible when enveloped by a cover-- but an equally important homage to the artisanship.

My wish is that you experience the finest sleep of your life, and with UMŌ, you will.
